Riding on The Rain

Hello, Good Riders!!

Riding in the rainy season on the wet or slippery roads is one of challenges for the riders. Some times we couldn’t predict the weather that will happen on that day. Safety becomes more important when the roads and the trails is slicker, plus your eyesight doesn’t work well on the rain.

Here’s a few tips to keep you safe and comfy riding on the rain:

  1. Reduce the Speed

By reducing the speed, you will be better to handle your bike especially on the slippery road. For those who use disc brakes, the brake performance is not affected by the water. But those who use rim brakes, the performance of the rim and brake pads will decrease, clean or replace them if they couldn’t reduce the speed significantly anymore. On the rain, apply the brakes earlier than normal days.

2. Use Fender

When the rear tyre spins, it will carry the water and the mud, then splash it up. If you don’t care about dirty clothes, at least look at the safety factor. Bike lights, reflectors, eyes can get splashed. This could cover the lighting or block our view, which can be bad for your riding.

3. Lights

Beside for your vision, the good quality lights will make you more visible and people will be more aware of your presence.

   

4. Lube

Water and grits are the catalyst for rust and corrosion. Water will also leach grease or lubricant on the chains and other parts faster than dry conditions. So you need to be more routine to clean your bike, apply and add lubricant for your bike.

5. Waterproof Apparel

Invest in a good waterproof jacket. Beside waterproof jacket make you dry, it will help you regulate your body temperature. Not only waterproof, but also breathable material is essential so your body don’t overheat.

Don’t forget glasses for protect your eyes.

6. Put into plastic

Some people put their phone on their handlebar. Bring a waterproof plastic or ziplock bag can protect your electronic equipment. Put your equipment into the plastic, and it will be saved from the rain.

Or you could buy the long lasting product, a waterproof storage that big enough to keep your important things.

7. Roller/Trainer

If you don’t like to go outside, you can keep riding inside. Keep riding, and if you need interaction, join community or competition with cycling application.
